I used VueScan with my Polaroid SS4000 scanner in place of the Polaroid scanning software and have been very pleased with the results. The question now of course is how much effort do you intend to put into your own scanning? You have to learn the hardware and the software otherwise you will get the equivalent of fifty cent scans. Believe me I know, been there and done that! Good luck! Well, I wasn't looking for perfection, but I did expect better than what I got. For example, an image which is so black it's unrecognizable, isn't acceptable...even for a dollar. What I've decided to do is invest a hundred dollars in an Epson V200. For that little money, I'm not expecting miracles. I'm also going to try using it with Vuescan software. Anyone able to compare the software which comes with an Epson scanner with that of Vuescan? Anyway I'm going to see if I can't come up with something better than what I got from the photo store. I'll report back. This turned out to be quite a discussion, ranging from wages in San Franciso to....hmmm, you name it. Thanks to everyone for their input...or should I say "output"?
