I can't speak to the 2200 but I have used the original 1200 I bought for over 9 years now. It has never seen OEM inks. I've used all manner of third party inks in it including both color and black. These include G4s, Mis Archival and Pro, Mis original Quads, Pantone color inks, Mis VM and VMS quads, Mis DD black, Eboni, Mis UT series quad/hextone inks and last but not least, all sorts of self mixed dilutions and combinations of these as experimental ink sets. The machine is not even close to being ready for the garbage heap. As I write this it is turning out a series of experimental quad/sepia split tone prints that are akin to lith prints. I have a 3000 and a 7000 that have had similar use as well. As in all of what we do with this technology, it has a good deal more to do with thoughtful application and care than it does with risk.
