Paul, I'm using the OEM Epson chips and carts and just reset the chip at each refill. You can buy an Epson chip resetter and Epson compatible spare chips from MIS. I only purchased the cartridge plugs and tool kit from r-jet-tek. Each Epson cart has a specific chip and also each cart (at least for the 1800) is uniquely keyed (plastic fins) to fit only in one slot. The latter "feature" is a bit of a nuisance when trying to use Epson glop carts in other ink positions because you must cut off these plastic fins.
