where to obtain refillable cartridges?

where to obtain refillable cartridges?

2008-01-31 by Paul Whiting

I know there's been a fair amount of discussion of this question, but
usually in the context of some other issues, so permit me start on a
specific thread on this.

Am about to spring for a refurbed R1800 and use Paul Roark's 3-MK
approach. I'm accustomed to using MIS' refillable carts for the black
position in my R220, with cleaning solution in the other five. Am
using MIS' Eboni ink with great results on smaller prints, very
pleased with the prints. Thanks to Clayton Jones for this simple and
effective way to get started in B/W digital printing.

But what now? I've heard about Efillink carts but they don't sell them
empty... you'd have to buy them filled, then flush them out, right?
Because you wouldn't want their ink to mix with the Eboni.

There's there's this approach:

http://www.rjettek.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/486

I saw some comments on this a while back, but not much lately. Anyone
tried this recently? Apparently you can use the OEM cartridge and fill
it in place. Then there's no need to chase down an empty refillable
cartridge somewhere. You'd still have to flush out the OEM ink however.

Thanks all!

Well, I have it but kept waiting for some inks to go with it. I should be
giving it a go within the next few days. I also picked up the self
rechipping carts for a 2200 and they work great. I'll be trying the approach
below on some carts for my 1160. I don't have any 2200 Epson carts as I got
the unit with a CIS system.

I'm using the rjetek plugs for refilling OEM 1800 carts. Works very
well. I'm using the Epson gloss enhancer carts (you can buy them
cheap at Atlex in two packs) simply because it eliminates the
residual color ink problem. I just switch chips to use the carts in
other ink channels. If you don't want to go that route I think MIS
is still selling empty 1800 spongeless carts.

Thanks, Carl,

Elementary questions, I'm new at this!

So each cart has its own specific chip? I guess they'd have to. I note
that the chips on the R-jet-tek website are not resettable, although
they are listed alongside the chip resetting device. Seems strange.
Anyway, you'd put a new chip on each time you refilled, right?

Also, those chips have the prefix "HP". Do they mean Hewlett-Packard?!
That seems a little strange, too!

Regards,

Paul

One more question, please:

Do you use the Super kit? Apparently it uses a more accurate tool for
drilling the hole.

Thanks again,

Paul

Re: [Digital BW] where to obtain refillable cartridges?

2008-02-11 by Carl Schofield

Paul,

I'm using the OEM Epson chips and carts and just reset the chip at
each refill. You can buy an Epson chip resetter and Epson compatible
spare chips from MIS. I only purchased the cartridge plugs and tool
kit from r-jet-tek. Each Epson cart has a specific chip and also
each cart (at least for the 1800) is uniquely keyed (plastic fins) to
fit only in one slot. The latter "feature" is a bit of a nuisance
when trying to use Epson glop carts in other ink positions because
you must cut off these plastic fins.

Carl,

I just checked out r-jet-tek. What a great idea. How much did they charge for the equipment? I've been looking for something like this for a long time.
