I believe that is the reason folks have used Windex in the past for cleaning - for the ammonia. I use Paul's base diluted a bit more (more water, less glycerol) with ammonia and some isopropyl alcohol to clean when switching ink sets, or when I buy a used machine. I have heard recomendations not to leave the alcohol in for longer periods, like when storing a machine, because of it's hardening/aging effect on plastics. Best, Michael
