Once the cart is primed, the bottom-fill adapter is not used -- as long as the cart has not run dry. Usually, I just remove the cart if it is getting very low, pull the plug over the reservoir, and squirt in some ink. The only problem I've had with the auto reset chips is that they do not accurately tell me the ink level. As such, I find myself ignoring the indications that the ink is low. If I do run a cart dry, then I need to re-prime it. But it's not a big deal. I do highly recommend my bottom fill adapter modification, however. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Mod_Bot_Fill.jpg They can simply be cut with a sharp scissors to get them to the right size. These same modified bottom fill adapters are what I use to pull ink from Epson OEM 7600 carts, which I use as my sources for Epson UC inks. I have not mixed cart or chip types, so I have not seen those problems. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
