anyone have any luck with these puppies? So far all I get is empty cart alert so can't print. No instructions I can find on the MIS sight. They said on the phone you just turn the printer off, then back on? Thanks, Tyler

Hi Tyler, My 1400 refill carts work ok. But they cannot be mixed with original Epson carts. Did you get your carts from MIS? Andre

Yes, they are MIS. At first they were mixed in with some other Cone carts, but after that didn't work I put the entire MIS set in. Still not working. How did you reset? Tyler --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Andre Moreau" <andre1moreau@...> wrote:

I don't think there's a resetter available for the 1400 carts. I did have a problem with the R260 when I mixed Epson and MIS autoreset carts. Nothing worked until I pulled all the carts and replaced them with Epson's and ascertained that everything was ok. Then put back the refilled carts and that worked. But in your case, if I understand correctly, the MIS carts did work when mixed with Cone carts but not when all six MIS carts are put in the printer. Could some MIS carts be defectives? Andre

Tyler, my original Epson carts did the same thing. I couldn't even get the printer to work originally. They sent me a new set of carts, I changed out the one that was blinking empty, and it worked after that. I haven't gotten an empty or low cart alert since then. What do you think the odds are that you got a printer with a bad feed mechanism and a bad cart? :) Jenny

Tyler, I have auto resets for both my 2200 and a R200 however neither are MIS. I did need to wiggle them a little to get them to read on a few of them. You might just try that. Also might need to wipe the chip with something to clean it. Could be that it is just not making good contact. If MIS carts continue to be a problem, let me know. well, I'd say the odds are pretty stinkin' good eh??? After reading all of this, I pulled out the carts and put in Epson carts, all starts up fine. So, I'll put the MIS carts back in and see what happens. I sure would like some fill info for them though, a confusing array of plugs came with. Nothing on the site, nothing included with the carts, no return service call. Andre, I know there is no restter, apparently Epson has come up with the first non-hackable chip. But the "auto" restting is supposed to occur by shutting down and restarting the printer, if I recall. It doesn't just happen all by itself... Thanks Eric, been wiggling and wiping the whole time. Has anyone here used these things? T --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Jenny Ellerbe" <jenny.ellerbe@...> wrote:

IF the fill process is the same, it involves two 10cc syringes. One is filled with ink to inject into the cart at the fill port, one is used to withdraw air and foam from the regular cart output. With the original Epson carts, a small ball - like a ball bearing - is used to seal the fill port. I imagine they have a somewhat better solution - one of the plugs? - for the refillable carts. Looking at the directions for refilling the original Epson carts should give you enough info to figure out how to refill yours: http://www.inksupply.com/html/pdf/epson_oem_refill_kit_instructions.pd f http://www.inksupply.com/epson_oem_refill_kit.cfm I like MIS quite a bit. Unfortunately they seem to have quality problems with their suppliers at times. As you mentioned, there often is not enough info available either. Best, Michael

Concerning the MIS refill system. A word to the wise. I have to exert a lot of pressure to refill 2400 carts with this method. I've had the cart slip and ink goes all over the place. A cart holder of some type would be a nice addition. Also be carefull pulling out the syringe from the port that delivers ink in the printer. It's very easy to damage the seal. A poorly designed setup imho, but, it does work. Best, Walt

Hi Walt, thanks for the note. Basically I'm just trying to finish out the ink from the workshop on some more tests and seemed to have slipped into that twilight zone of meltdown we all know so well. Seems to be working now, and to anyone else, the 1400 carts are the same as the r260 and some others, instructions here- http://www.inksupply.com/instructions/r260_slc_refill.cfm Thanks all. Hello Tyler, This is the instruction set for refilling the carts I bought and was supposed to follow. http://tinyurl.com/4my3vf But I removed all the plugs, filled the cart with a MIS syringe, punctured the exit hole and used a bottom fill adapter to draw some ink out. Put the filling plug back on and discarded the plug with the tab. Good luck, Andre

Once the cart is primed, the bottom-fill adapter is not used -- as long as the cart has not run dry. Usually, I just remove the cart if it is getting very low, pull the plug over the reservoir, and squirt in some ink. The only problem I've had with the auto reset chips is that they do not accurately tell me the ink level. As such, I find myself ignoring the indications that the ink is low. If I do run a cart dry, then I need to re-prime it. But it's not a big deal. I do highly recommend my bottom fill adapter modification, however. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Mod_Bot_Fill.jpg They can simply be cut with a sharp scissors to get them to the right size. These same modified bottom fill adapters are what I use to pull ink from Epson OEM 7600 carts, which I use as my sources for Epson UC inks. I have not mixed cart or chip types, so I have not seen those problems. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

To All, I have been experimenting with self-resetting carts an found there is a learning curve to using them. I have been using a supplier, www.inkjetcarts.us, who leans over backwards to provide support. Their Epson-compatible (Image Specialists) inks are $12 / 4 oz, not $18 / 4 oz. They claim their matte black for the R800/1800 is the same as MIS's ebony black. With every order they ship syringes and needles at no charge. They also give you a CD with the best selection of files including the SCC service utility, a collection of pdf files explaining how to use self-resetting carts, and pdf's containing a ton of information every chip refiller should know. These last two items are the best single collection of useful cart refilling information I've found anywhere and have been the key to my solving my air-in-the-head- problems. Unfortunately, you cannot download these files from their website. I called them and they gave me permission to upload them to our group's file section. If someone call tell me how to or who can upload these files, I'll get them up there. While some spots may be a bit rough, they are worth the time spent, particularly if you are using self resetting chips. One point to note about self resetting carts is that they eliminate the need to remove carts from the printer for refilling. Just pull the plug and squirt in more ink and your set to go. This eliminates the possibility of air getting in the head and is the biggest reason I am trying them out. If you are changing position colors, then obviously this won't work, but then you are only back to what you are doing now. They sell a set of self-resetting carts for the R1800 is $26, with chips. Evidently, because they are self-resetting, they can still sell them. Bob bob@... [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
