IF the fill process is the same, it involves two 10cc syringes. One is filled with ink to inject into the cart at the fill port, one is used to withdraw air and foam from the regular cart output. With the original Epson carts, a small ball - like a ball bearing - is used to seal the fill port. I imagine they have a somewhat better solution - one of the plugs? - for the refillable carts.
