Re: [Digital BW] with the R1800 discontinued...

2008-07-04 by Bert Katzung

Hi Allan:
I think the R1900 is the successor to the R1800 and should be available now.
Next step up is the 3800 and that has gotten rave reviews.
I'm still using my old 1280 and a 2200, so I can't talk about the above
printers from experience.

So my 1280 finally bit the dust about 2 months ago. I'm very, very
slowly trying to figure out my next printer. I haven't kept up with
this group, and of course it's a lot of information through which to
sift. I have read a lot of threads and posts in the last weeks.

Since the R1800 is discontinued...I'm not sure what is a better option
for me. Look for an R1800 (Epson has a refurb one right now, for
instance) and go with the triple eboni, or maybe a 1400? I saw some
that said "in many ways" the 1400 was better than the 1800. But if
given the choice...? Especially with baryta papers becoming more and
more popular?

It seems that, with the new glossier papers coming out, the 1400 is
the better long-term (as much as that term can be used) solution. Is
that a decent interpretation of the landscape of options right now?
