It's a normal part of my workflow to use adjustment curves to fine tune an image to match a particular paper. But the underlying assumption is that an effort has been made beforehand to find the optimum printer settings for that paper. Paul's article said essentially the same - his adjustment curve is calculated after the best media setting is selected. My point is that, in addition to the media setting, the ink load setting can be be tweaked to further optimize the printer. I hope this is helpful and not confusing.
