Excellent point. When I first got my 2400 the initial blacks looked overloaded and "bloated"(...can't think of good words to describe it). Reducing ink load cured it. That was my first foray into experimenting with ink load. Various papers definitely have different carrying capacity (and dot gain characteristics). You are absolutely right - it's a bit of a dance to find the sweet spot among all the variables.
