The FS inks in the 1270 might be a reasonable way to start, but I'm 
not sure I'd want to go that far back in terms of the hardware, 
inksets, or workflows.

The Epson 1400 is, I think, the most for the money now.  There are a 
number of inksets for it.  I've worked up a couple.  See

I think there is also a Piezo inkset for it.

I think Eboni-6 in a 1400 with a "color managed" Epson driver 
workflow using QTR's Create ICC or Create ICC-RGB is the best 
workflow. 

I'm currently a fan of 100% carbon hextone inksets.
