The 1270 is fine unless you want your work to look like it's from another printer. I use mine for Black channel printing - rather than gray ink printing. Try to remember that looks come and go, and, everyone wants to sell you something  :  )

While my 1270 can be fussy when it dries up, I'm happy with it and the old 3000 & 640 4-colors. Printing is a matter of taste, so you might explore the 1270 at minimal cost first. Go through all the sampler paks you can find and get some idea where you want to go.
