R1800/3MK - Swapping Cartridge Positions

2008-10-21 by Ken Alexander

I'm getting banding on my prints. Head alignment is OK, and nozzle check (via Epson's driver, QTR doesn't support nozzle checks) appear OK too. Then it occurred to me that the Epson nozzle check wouldn't check the glop slot because it's expecting to fire a clear liquid and how would you tell if it's working OK when you couldn't see the result on paper?

So, because the glop channel presumably doesn't fire during the nozzle check, and the two other channels appear OK then the glop slot is probably the one causing the banding (??).

That said, I'd like to relocate the MK cartridge in the glop slot to, say, the yellow slot (I'm not worried about colour printing). It looks to me like all I have to do is the following in my curve file:

1. Change LIMIT_Y= [blank] to the value for LIMIT_GL, and then set LIMIT_GL to [blank]

2. Change UNUSED_INK_3=Y to CURVE_Y= [and cut/paste the values from the existing CURVE_GL line, and then change CURVE_GL="..." to UNUSED_INK_8=GL

Is my reasoning sound...and is the solution this simple?

Thanks for any help!

Ken
