My latest experiement with an open source, reasonably cheap carbon printing setup uses a warm midtone 10% mix of UC MK. The UCMK was diluted with the C6 base. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Ink-Mixing.pdf For more details of the resulting inkset, see http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Carbon-7b-2200-10pcUCMK.pdf While I used Eb6-Y in this iteration, C6-Y would preform essentially the same way in 4 pl printers (at least given what I've seen in the approximate year I've been working with both Eboni dilution bases). For UC MK I just pull ink from a 7600 MK cart, using my usual modified bottom fill adapter. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Modified-Bottom-Fill-Adapter.pdf I'm using a centrifuge to try and obtain information regarding rate of settlement, which also translates into resistance to flocculation/agglomeration. Going forward, doing well in the centrifuge will be a regular factor in where I go. They all settle, but some are better than others. This is not a recommendation that others go this route, but just a note on my latest experiements. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
