Yes this is true, buffered board should not be used with art work that is sensitive to an alkaline environment, as some of the older photographic process are. Be sure to check before using a buffered board. If in doubt use a non-buffered Rag board. But I believe for most of our applications, i.e. digital prints and most modern photographic processes that the buffered board is safe and extends the life of most artwork for the length of time until all of the calcium carbonate in the board reacts with pollutants and is neutralized.
