I recently did just that- took mine out in a light rain.  Didn't  
realize they were highly at risk.  It didn't stop working.  Now, I  
wasn't out in it for long- just got out of the car, took a couple of  
shots, got back in, repeated that at another location, wiped the  
camera off immediately each time, and it wasn't raining very hard.  I  
was lucky, I guess.  There must be a threshold of rain amount that  
does them in.
