I have not read every LL posting on this, but the 2 comments I've seen
that seem to have been attributed to Canon suggest that corrosion or
the like was found under the shutter button of one sample, and there
may have been a bad batch of cameras. One user found that, as a
preventative, one could simply tape over the shutter button, thus
sealing it, and it will continue to work normally. If there was a bad
batch of cameras, hopefully Canon will identify those owners and offer
to replace the defective component(s). I suspect they are working the
problem.

(On a more positive note, Canon announced new tilt shift 24 and 17mm
lenses, finally replacing their old 24mm TS dog.)
