Mark, Just to eliminate the obvious, how do the nozzle checks look? Sounds like you have a intermittent, partial clogged nozzle on the black cartridge or the vent hole might be partially blocked. The other possibility is that you have a bad cartridge. If nozzle checks and cleanings don't clear up the problem give the manufacturer a call and see if you can get a replacement. I have had MIS VM inks in a 1280 with a CIS for about 6 months and clogging has been very minimal. The clogging I have had has always been on the black cartridge. Clogs have always cleared within 3 or 4 nozzle cleaning cycles except for one that required an overnight rest for the air to dissipate.
