It's not SSC.  That's a useful app but doesn't do anything about banding.

The Epson service adjustment utility is made by Epson for Epson techs when they fix and reassemble a printer.  You can run through various adjustment routines in order (i.e. select replace print head and it leads you through the steps) or a la carte.

You can use the in-program help to assist you in figuring out how each of the steps works.

It says use photo quality paper but I haven't had issues using plain paper (looks visually identical).
