In hospitals they go through bags of normal saline and sets of tubing like they were sheets of newspaper. If I uncapped a set of tubing and dropped it on the floor by accident, I would just get a new set. If you asked a hospital if you could have discarded tubing and empty bags, they would doubtlessly say no, and you would likely not be comfortable with tubing that had been connected to a patient, even if that patient had no infectious process going on. But if you knew a nurse who would put aside clean sets and bags for you- bags often get spiked but then not used, for instance-in a fairly short period of time you could have a supply of these items that were just going to be thrown away, anyway. Bags are good because there are various ways to fill them, if you have syringes and needles, and blunt needles are fine, both also easily available to any nurse, and ways to get most, if not all, of the air out. And normal saline is about as benign as it gets as far as interacting with whatever you want to fill the bag with, plus you can get virtually all of it out before you start. So: find a nurse who likes goof prints : ) James Sent from my iPhone On Apr 24, 2009, at 2:18 PM, Walker Blackwell <forums@... > wrote:
