Re: [Digital BW] Soft-proof "profile" for Piezotones?

2009-05-07 by Terry Ritz

Should you decide to do this after all Mark. . . . You just need to find a
way to get the LAB values out of your spectro for a 21 step wedge. These
need to populate a relatively simple text file, which is then used to create
the soft proof.

For the other poster who felt that ink and paper toning might not
represented, they are. With the QTR Create-ICC tools you can make profiles
that contain only LAB "L" data, or profiles with LAB "L", "A", and "B" data.

I have found the soft proofs to be very useful, at leaset for my own
purposes. I can compare various toned and split toned approaches on screen
before I make my print. More recently, Jon Cone's folks sent me soft proofs
for his Special Edition inks, one for a six ink version and one for a seven
ink version. I could see how the two differed, and compare them with the
inkset I had at the time. Of course I followed up by having some real prints
made before a purchase, but I learned enough with the soft proofs to keep
going.

Terry.
