One of the ongoing limitations of many Epson printers is the need to change cartridges to switch between BK and PK. This is especially problematic for large printers like the 4880 which hold quite of bit of ink in the "line" between the cartridge and the damper/head. http://www.americaninkjetsystems.com/epson_professional_printers.html says this about the 4880 and other 8-color Epsons: > "You can set up all Epson 8-color printer in several ways: > 1: With two blacks, Gloss and Matte with Lt Black. > 2: With one Black, Lt Black and Lt Lt Black. > 3: With one Black, Lt Black and Lime Green. > 4: With multiple colors for fabric printing." The second of these is, of course, the standard configuration. The first eliminates the Lt Lt Black in favour of having both "pure" blacks available at all times. They are using their own RIP to print these arrangements. For the 4880, that costs $500, and is Windows only at present. Is there a way to use QTR ($50) to print color with two (rather than three) blacks, and B&W with two blacks? I assume this can be done, but I am not well enough versed in QTR to know how to go about accomplishing it. ...and I suppose I would want to test the 2K printing before switching, as well. Thanks.
