Re:Flatbed Scanning 4x5

2002-02-14 by riskdr8138

HI ALAN,

like you i have been scanning 4x5 and 2 1/4 negs with a flatbed
scanner with very good results to 13x19. could probably print bigger
but don't have a reason to right now. i use a heidleberg saphir ultr
ii. it scans at 1200x2400ppi. if i scan my 4x5 negs at 1200 i could
go out to 16x20 prints at 300ppi to the printer. thats photographic
quality. the 2 1/4 negs are scanned at max resolution and then
upsized in genuine fractiles. it works great and i have made some
very impressive prints up to 13x19. i have also scanned 8x10 negs. in
13x19 prints the detail is stunning, but then so is the 4x5.
i think 35mm would be stretching it. if i scan at 1200 i could only
get 300ppi in a 4"x5" print out of it. maybe in gf i could go some
bigger. moot because i don't shoot 35 any more.

how much resolution does yoru epson give you? if it goes to 1200 you
can definately print excellent 13x19 prints.
