Re: [Digital BW] Double-Sided Glossy Paper

2009-08-05 by Bob Marsolais

The results are in. I just printed a color (sorry about that!) image on a sheet of HP's double-sided glossy 48 brochure paper, part number C7020A. Not having a profile for the HP paper, I used the canned Epson R1800 "Premium Photo Paper Glossy" profile with the printer set to the "Photo" mode. To mix the pot even more, I am using Image Specialist inks. (Please, no comments, I know...)

First, the HP paper is slightly warmer than the Costco paper and has what I would call a luster finish, not a glossy finish. Comparing it side-by-side to the same image printed with the same settings on Costco Professional Glossy, the differences are VERY minor. I attribute the differences to the surface finish and warmer paper. The blues on the HP paper don't have quite the same "pop" as the Costco paper, but that may be partly due to the warmer tint of the HP paper. The ink took very well and 30 minutes after printing would not rub off at all when rubbing hard with my damp or dry finger. There wasn't even a color tint on my finger. The image quality is excellent.

Conclusion - I highly recommend the paper for brochures. If you want even better results, get a custom profile, but for my use, this paper is great.
