Double-Sided Glossy Paper

Double-Sided Glossy Paper

2009-08-01 by Bob Marsolais

I'm looking for some double-sided glossy paper about 24 pound to print some brochures. It needs to print images reasonably well. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have not been able to find any.

Thanks for the help.

Not sure where you are located, but in the USA Staples has a double sided glossy brochure paper that I've used with pigment inks. Exceptionally water resistant but has kind of a small gamut. Still looks good though. You can get it in 25 sheet packs for a few dollars, or 150 sheet packs. It is a Staples branded product but I can not find it on their site right now. Last time I was in my local store they had plenty of stock so I think it is still a current product. It's in blue box.

The glossy HP brochure paper I have here definitely does not work with Epson pigmented inks. It's fine with dye-based HP ink.

If anyone wants an unopened 50 pack of 11x17 inch HP Brochure and flyer paper, glossy (48 pound weight) and an opened pack with 46 sheets or so left please email me off list- I'll sell it for any reasonable price.

Same paper didn't work with Image Specialists pigment inks when I tested it several years ago. I'll try to remember to get the part number of that Staples paper when I get to work, I was always able to find it by the number.

It looks like HP has both inkjet and laser double-sided glossy brochure paper. I've ordered a 100 pack of the inkjet paper through Staples. There was no Staples brand paper on their website.

I'll let the group know how it works out. I am also using Image Specialist inks.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Unless HP changed the paper expect poor results.

That won't work well- I proved this with Image Specialist and Epson R1800 inks. The prints will look mottled no matter which driver paper setting you choose.

The results are in. I just printed a color (sorry about that!) image on a sheet of HP's double-sided glossy 48 brochure paper, part number C7020A. Not having a profile for the HP paper, I used the canned Epson R1800 "Premium Photo Paper Glossy" profile with the printer set to the "Photo" mode. To mix the pot even more, I am using Image Specialist inks. (Please, no comments, I know...)

First, the HP paper is slightly warmer than the Costco paper and has what I would call a luster finish, not a glossy finish. Comparing it side-by-side to the same image printed with the same settings on Costco Professional Glossy, the differences are VERY minor. I attribute the differences to the surface finish and warmer paper. The blues on the HP paper don't have quite the same "pop" as the Costco paper, but that may be partly due to the warmer tint of the HP paper. The ink took very well and 30 minutes after printing would not rub off at all when rubbing hard with my damp or dry finger. There wasn't even a color tint on my finger. The image quality is excellent.

Conclusion - I highly recommend the paper for brochures. If you want even better results, get a custom profile, but for my use, this paper is great.

The paper I used was C6820A, HP Brochure and Flyer glossy, purchased a year ago. It may be a different paper as it definitely doesn't have a luster finish (it's not pebbled looking).

Glad it worked out for you and if anyone wants the paper I have- 90 or so sheets of 11x17 can be yours for very little.
