1400 nightmares

2009-09-13 by James Irelan

I've got yet another e mail out to Dana at Cone's for possible help
getting these 1400s to work. I have two, with color CISes. Neither
one has functioned properly. The one I've been working on currently
keeps showing an error light, pointing to a particular cart. When I
pull up that cart and put it back down, it may work then, or go to
another cart. I fix that one, maybe it'll work for a cleaning cycle
or two, then boom, another light. I've pulled ALL of the carts at a
time, put them back, then it will seem to work longer- maybe four or
five cleaning cycles, but before long, there's another light, and
it'll go on like that in an ongoing cycle from color to color, getting
back to a color I've already fixed. Before the lights started being
the main problem, I did I don't know how many pad soaks with Cone's
red flush, and windex-soaked paper towel cleans, trying to get full
nozzle checks. Never could. Pulled the carts and flushed with a
syringe and plastic tube over the intake nib with Cone's red flush.
Still problems. These printers worked fine when I first got them,
with the OEM carts in. Perfect from the start. With Cone's CISes:
nothing but problems.

I use these printers primarily for everyday printing, with the goal of
being able also to print a good small print as a proof or whatever. I
long for the days of 1160s with NoMoreCarts- never a problem. I've
got some of these printers still, don't know if they could be
resurrected any more, or if the driver for them for OS X, which I just
downloaded, will work in Snow Leopard. I need a printer that works,
not one that I continually have to try to get working.

Anyone know of a good 1160-like trouble-free workhorse daily printer
with a CIS available for it? Anyone want two 1400s?

James
