Digital BW, The Print

I was considering getting a 3880 printer, but can't even find one to test.
Does so a friend suggested a 4880. Does anyone have experience with a 4880
printer? If so, what are your comments?

Mel, I just received a 4880.  They were on special through the end of the
month for $900, shipped, using rebates.  They are much bigger than the 3800
series.  Everything is heavier duty.  They can take rolls. The ink
cartridges are bigger. They use a vacuum hold down to hold the paper flat.
They both have the same minimum droplet size, and updated screening
technology, although I'm not sure that the screening is the same.
