I was considering getting a 3880 printer, but can't even find one to test. Does so a friend suggested a 4880. Does anyone have experience with a 4880 printer? If so, what are your comments? Thanks. Mel

Probably because it is a new release, unlike the 4880, which has been out for some time. > Does so a friend suggested a 4880. Does anyone have experience with > a 4880 printer? Yes, but which of these two, or some other printer, would be best for you depends on what you want it for. Dedicated B&W with specialty inks? Mixed color and B&W? Gloss and luster media? Matte/Art media? Mixed media? Each of these effects the recommendations significantly. C. Mel Mel, I just received a 4880. They were on special through the end of the month for $900, shipped, using rebates. They are much bigger than the 3800 series. Everything is heavier duty. They can take rolls. The ink cartridges are bigger. They use a vacuum hold down to hold the paper flat. They both have the same minimum droplet size, and updated screening technology, although I'm not sure that the screening is the same. Hope that helps. Peter; Please tell me where you got a 4880 for only $900.00? I have not seen anything close to that. Even if the sale isover, I would like to contact the place. - C. David Tobie, Of course all of your points matter. My main use will be portfolio prints. I tend to create my own profiles so what is really important to hear from others is reliability, ease of use and quality. Thank you for your comments. BTW, is there anyone in the San Francisco area with a 4880? Mel --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@...m, "pdesmidt tds.net" <pdesmidt@...> wrote:

Mel - I just bought a 4880 for a net cost of about $1100. The deal through the end of Sept was a $500 rebate + an additional $350 rebate. I paid about $1900+ for the printer minus $850 in rebates. I started out to buy a 3800 but the pile of rebates made the 4880 about the same price. At the end of Sept it was actually hard to find a 4880 available from the dealers! Currently they have a 6 week backlog. The $350 rebate fell off but they still have the $500 rebate. Good luck, Tom [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Tom; That sounds like a great deal, but can you tell me WHERE you got such a deal? THanks. Mel --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Tom Fielder" <tfielder@...> wrote:

Mel - Rebates were / are from Epson: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/BuyEpson/rcDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes <http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/BuyEpson/rcDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes &cp=C&coid=-13591> &cp=C&coid=-13591 . Last month they had a $350 + $500. The $350 expired but the $500 is still available. You can buy your printer from ANY Epson dealer. However, I understand that its hard to find a 4880. I bought my machine from Murphy's Camera: http://www.murphyscamera.com/ Tom [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

To get the rebates, you have to buy from an Authorized Epson Pro reseller. Epson has a list of all of these on their website. If they're not listed, then they aren't a pro dealer. For example, Amazon is not one. I bought my printer from www.itsupplies.com , and their service was excellent. -Peter [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The text says: "Purchase an Epson Stylus Pro 4880 Standard Model, Portrait Edition, or ColorBurst Edition from an *Epson* *authorized professional imaging reseller * between August 15, 2009 and October 31, 2009 and recieve $500 back by mail." Emphasis is mine. I interpret that as meaning that you have to buy from an authorized professional imaging reseller, not just any dealer, and the list is on Epson's professional website. When I was looking into this, the professional Imagaing resellers all had info about the rebate on their site, but Amazon, for instance, did not. I called Epson Professional Services to verify this on the phone, and the Epson representative told me that my understanding was correct. If you are going to buy from a dealer who is not an Epson authorized professional imaging reseller, call Epson to verify that you'll get the rebate.
