Refilling Spongeless EB6 Carts on 1400

Refilling Spongeless EB6 Carts on 1400

2009-10-10 by thusband2003

I just bought a set of the Eb6 carts with the auto rest chip for my 1400 and am printing and learning.

Can I refill the carts in the printer when the light comes on or do I have to remove the carts to refill? There's that refill plug that looks like it could be removed in the printer fairly easy. The refill instructions at MIS suggest removing, refilling and priming but refilling in the printer would be so much easier.

Thanks,

Tom Husband

Tom,

Like you, I'm new with Epson 1400, MIS spongless carts and EB6 inkset. I began with MIS-filled carts in a new, unused 1400.

Hoping to minimize risk of getting air into the system, I refill the MIS carts in the printer. So far, so good. I got 12cc syringes as that approximated the capacity of the 1400 cart. Working in good light, I can see the ink approaching cart capacity and avoid a messy overfill. I begin with the lightest EB6 ink and work toward the black, thus avoiding any need to "rinse" the syringe each time.

AFTER a refill session, I shake the 4-oz ink bottles and set aside for storage. The foam and bubbles are gone when 'tis time for the next refill.

I prefer printing *purge* files to verify operation, rather than nozzle checks.

Can anyone suggest if the ink-level monitoring and blinking LEDs are of any use with this refill method?

If others would suggest a better way, I would be keen to hear thereof.

I recommend you agitate the Eboni-6 bottles before refilling. Eboni-6 settles faster than most inksets when in those bottles. The 1400 printer agitates the inks continuously when printing. So, settlement is not a significant issue for desktop printers. However, for bulk ink bottles and wide format printers, you'll have trouble with consistency if you don't agitate the inks before using.

Hi Will,

Like you I started with a new 1400 and EB6 inkset but will be buying the
bottles shortly. Refilling in the printer just makes more sense.

With the auto reset chips don't you have to turn the printer off and on when
the low ink LEDs start flashing in order to reset the chip? I was thinking
that you'd wait till the LED(s) start flashing, push the cartridge exchange
button to align the carts, turn the printer off, refill the low ink cart,
turn the printer back on and then the chip will reset itself. If you ignore
the LEDs won't the printer quit after the chip thinks the cart is out of
ink?

Twice I've got a problem with my 1400 and MIS cartridges - first time during the print suddenly printer stops, starts cleaning, then status window comes up and shows one cartridge became full (probably auto reset), then it continues printing and my print was lost because there was no ink in one cartridge.
The second time suddenly I've got very pale print and after a few cleanings I've realized that the black cartridge was empty.

By the way the last time I've refilled in the printer. It seems to me that the best is to add inks once in a while not waiting for a signal.

can we sell here???

2009-10-12 by frankjay02

Hello,
I have some black and white printing supplies for the EPSON R1800. The information I received about MIS inks was I could switch out the blacks and put back in the colors. Well I couldn't and I now have a R1800 that cannot print color again or anything again. I used flush carts and traded out old color carts with new ones and nothing. I get a muddy looking color print and crappy black and whites. I got excellent black and white before all the flushes etc.
Can someone let me know if I can sell those supplies here. I am done with black and white only printing and will order an epson printer that prints good black and white or send them out. I wish I was told the correct information in the first place so I did not have to junk a perfectly good 500 dollar printer.
The supplies will be sold for half the price that I paid for them
thanks
frank
