Tom, Like you, I'm new with Epson 1400, MIS spongless carts and EB6 inkset. I began with MIS-filled carts in a new, unused 1400. Hoping to minimize risk of getting air into the system, I refill the MIS carts in the printer. So far, so good. I got 12cc syringes as that approximated the capacity of the 1400 cart. Working in good light, I can see the ink approaching cart capacity and avoid a messy overfill. I begin with the lightest EB6 ink and work toward the black, thus avoiding any need to "rinse" the syringe each time. AFTER a refill session, I shake the 4-oz ink bottles and set aside for storage. The foam and bubbles are gone when 'tis time for the next refill. I prefer printing *purge* files to verify operation, rather than nozzle checks. Can anyone suggest if the ink-level monitoring and blinking LEDs are of any use with this refill method? If others would suggest a better way, I would be keen to hear thereof. There's that refill plug that looks like it could be removed in the printer fairly easy. The refill instructions at MIS suggest removing, refilling and priming but refilling in the printer would be so much easier.
