Digital BW, The Print

I just bought a set of the Eb6 carts with the auto rest chip for my 1400 and am printing and learning.

Can I refill the carts in the printer when the light comes on or do I have to remove the carts to refill?  There's that refill plug that looks like it could be removed in the printer fairly easy.  The refill instructions at MIS suggest removing, refilling and priming but refilling in the printer would be so much easier.
