Re: [Digital BW] Pricing Prints - (was print quad sale prices ?

2002-02-16 by Steadman Uhlich

Hmm....as a casual observer (buyer) it would appear that the prints made by Photographer B are "worth more" or "better" and hence more likely to get my attention....(and I have never seen a print!).

Consider that the lower price (always set by a photographer themselves) is an indication of low "self-esteem" in a very monetary way. (wink)

Of course if you are making Carbon Quadtones of Johnny's soccer team...or something like the family cat, it may not sell too well at $150. (grin)

Your post does not indicate if these prices were above and beyond a "sitting fee" or other fees which may apply in addition to the print price itself.

And...if they are "fine art prints" and sold as such...then the "artist" must consider those $35 fine art prints to be mighty "fine."

By the way, none of what I just wrote is intended to offend...merely to open an eye or two.

I know that print prices are very subjective and determined by the
photographer's name, the gallery, the market etc.

I was hoping to get a ballpark of the $ figures you use - I did a
search on google and came up with the following 'carbon pigment
  quadtone' prices:

  Photographer A - 5x7 @$45, 8x10 @$60, 11x14 @75
  Photographer B - 8x10 @$150, 11x14 @300, 14x16 or 16x20 @$600
  Photographer C - 4x5 @$40, 6.5x9.75 @$50, 13.5x20 @$150,
  Photographer D - 8x10 @$35, 11x14 @$35, 13x19 @$50

  Any contributions to this ?
