Re: [Digital BW] Pricing Prints - (was print quad sale prices ?

Hmm....as a casual observer (buyer) it would appear that the prints made by Photographer B are "worth more" or "better" and hence more likely to get my attention....(and I have never seen a print!).

Consider that the lower price (always set by a photographer themselves) is an indication of low "self-esteem" in a very monetary way. (wink)

Of course if you are making Carbon Quadtones of Johnny's soccer team...or something like the family cat, it may not sell too well at $150. (grin)

Your post does not indicate if these prices were above and beyond a "sitting fee" or other fees which may apply in addition to the print price itself.

And...if they are "fine art prints" and sold as such...then the "artist" must consider those $35 fine art prints to be mighty "fine."

By the way, none of what I just wrote is intended to offend...merely to open an eye or two.

I know that print prices are very subjective and determined by the
photographer's name, the gallery, the market etc.

I was hoping to get a ballpark of the $ figures you use - I did a
search on google and came up with the following 'carbon pigment
  quadtone' prices:

  Photographer A - 5x7 @$45, 8x10 @$60, 11x14 @75
  Photographer B - 8x10 @$150, 11x14 @300, 14x16 or 16x20 @$600
  Photographer C - 4x5 @$40, 6.5x9.75 @$50, 13.5x20 @$150,
  Photographer D - 8x10 @$35, 11x14 @$35, 13x19 @$50

  Any contributions to this ?

Congrats Mike!

Now remember that old song from the '70s....

"That's the way to do it....money for (fine art prints) and your chicks for free"

Of course your images are worth more...they are beautiful images and prints. (sincerely)

Well done Mike ! Nice prices - it must've been the sweetest $375
you've ever earned :-)

Steadman, to clarify - I'm really only referring to "fine art" print
sales - directly sold to buyers or via galleries or ? I'm not talking
about assignments, sittings etc.

Steadman,

Actually the prints were sold in a benefit auction for abused kids, so I did
not care if they sold for less than I would normally get. I just wanted all
of the money to go to help. Made me feel good.

Hey, so waht you been up to? New projects, prints, etc.? Anything special in
b/w digital?

I am sitting here on this cold rainy/stormy S. Florida morning, (actually a
welcome change), doing some scanning and printing.
