Paul, I have had a Canon IPF5100 for two years. It is a great printer. For B&W-only printing, I use Joe Berndt's TrueBW RIP which has a great interface for individual ink channel control and profiling. I have used both QTR and TrueBW and find TrueBW to have a far superior interface; unfortunately, it only works with Canon IPF printers. I get great "3BW ink" prints with this machine and TrueBW. The cartridges do not appear to be "user" refillable. I am not sure that you could engineer a system of all Black/Grey inks without Canon's cooperation. My ideal B&W printer would be a Canon IPF with TrueBW and Cone "K10" inks as the printer has 12 channels. My interest might be to see if it is suitable for B&W with modified or non-Canon inks. Does anyone have any experience with them and know whether there are refillable carts?
