By setting the platen wider is only a bandaid. You must have dirt on your head surface. Having the platen set to wide just keeps the head farther from the paper so it has less of a chance of touching. So what are the solutions you tried that are not worth explaining? Did you physically wipe the head clean by hand?

I think you can also setup a custom paper with a wide gap and it will remain wide when you turn the printer off.
