RE: [Digital BW] Re: Dedicated B&W printer - Epson 1400

Part of the reason to use OEM inks first is that you want to make sure that the printer is actually working. And the prevailing practice was Epson might refuse to honor your warranty if you had NON OEM inks in your machine. They would not even talk to you about paper alignment issues if you didn't use Epson paper. You can, to some degree, understand that they needed to verify with known materials. As the non OEM inks and papers got better, that stopped being such a concern, but might still be in the fine print. I'd refer to your printers warranty info and then move forward, unless you know for sure everything works.

There might be an issue with the inks later as they mix on the pad, but it should be very minimal.

We used to hear that the OEM ink should be used first. I'm not sure that's true. I just put in whatever ink I'm going to use, saving the OEM ink for when there is a problem.

With MIS carts, be sure to take off the yellow tab that let air into the cart. Also, I recommend sitting the carts upright for a day so that any foam that got into the outlet in transit has time to dissipate. Most "clogs" are not clogs but air and foam.

Good luck with the outfit.
