I do not get the "only 2 inks are needed, a black and one midtone".

This is a 3 picoliter droplet printer. Is that small enough for 2 inks?
Would you exchange all the CMY carts with the midtone or exchange one of 
the black heads with midtone?
Are the two black channels driven individually then?

I still eye some HP desktop office models with auto dual sided for an A3 
quad conversion. And the Designjet 10-130 range. And the Epson B500DN 
and B300. But they all fall within the 3-5 picoliter droplet category 
and have no QTR support. If converted they should have a quad set in my 
opinion and curves/profile is the only way to drive them then.
