No, the vivid magenta ink is only used in the x880 series printers.

Quite common unless you use up your inks quickly. The pigment particles 
settle out over time, and unless you shake them up or use them quickly, the 
ink slowly gets less saturated in color. Then when you put a fresh cart in, 
you get surprised by the jump back to normal color.

There are also likely to be batch variations; just as with buying paint 
where you are recommended to make sure multiple tins come from the same 
batch if you want accurate matching.
