Epson 1400 beginner question

Epson 1400 beginner question

2010-04-26 by thomkrahn

I am setting up my Epson 1400 using Paul Roark's Eboni 1400 directions.
I am confused by the following:

B. Ink Positions
The inks are as follows (from left to right in the 1400):
Y = Eb6-LM (6% Eboni, 94% clear base; LLK density)
K = Eboni MK (MIS Associates carbon matte black ink)
LC = Eb6-M (18% Eboni; LK density)
LM = Eb6-LC (9% Eboni)
M = Eb6-C (30% Eboni)
C = PKN (Neutralized photo black: HP Z3100 PK13 or MIS UT14-C)

I have put the Eb6-LM cartridge in the Y position. Do I also need to
switch the chip from a Y cartridge onto this cartridge, or do I keep the
LM chip on it?

Thank you for your help.

It seems like Paul referred to ink densities here. MIS Epson Eb6 set doesn't include PKN ink. In this case you have to switch chips -- you could displace cart in the printer only if it's chip still maps to the proper slot.

You have to switch the chips. They are on plastic carriers that slide out sideways. Keep track of the chip positions. You might want to use a Sharpie to mark the chip carriers.

For the PKN position, you'll want to have an empty cart. Since you're not using the Eb6-Y, it makes sense to buy an empty 1400 Y position cart from MIS. That way you'll have that chip and the empty cart for the PKN position.

Note that while I suggest MIS UT14-C may be a less expensive PKN, the HP PK prints more smoothly with my 1400.

Good luck with the setup. It worked very well for me. The only change I'm making this year is to add the MIS LK because I need sepia now.
