MIS Associates Inks Drying Problem

MIS Associates Inks Drying Problem

2010-08-24 by stthcl

Hello,

I am new to digital printing. I have an Epson 1400 which I have filled with MIS Assoc UT14 inks. I am using Kirkland Glossy, one of the recommended papers for this ink and for this printer. The problem is that the paper does not seem to absorb the ink. Even after 72+ hours of curing it can be easily wiped off with a swing of the finger. I have the black digits to prove it. I have spoken with MIS several times. They tell me that they have had good results with this paper and this ink. So, I am back to square one. I have several questions: 1. Has anyone else had a similar problem? 2. Should I give up on the glossy and resign myself to using matte paper? 3. Does MIS "misrepresent" its products? They seem like very nice folks and have a good reputation but the proof is in the results. Any help would be appreciated.

I am guessing you are using the Eboni black ink when you shouldn't be on
glossy. This will happen if you are using the wrong print driver / approach.
Have you read Paul Roark's article on this printer/ink combo ?
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/UT14.pdf Are you sure you are using one of
the glossy printing approaches detailed in this doc? Paul is probably the
best person to help you with this.

I'm using Eboni inks on a 1400 (Eb1400 inkset). i've tried them on a glossy paper, and they do not keep on the paper unless I put some Lumijet. So I agree with Michael: you might have Eboni ink on your kit that you should not use while printing on glossy.

Hi

I use an Epson 1400 with the UT14 MIS inkset. I've previously made QTR profiles for Kirkland Glossy: C/LC & M/LM
Let me know if you would like a copy.

See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/UT14.pdf for my write-up of the inkset. On page 7 I deal with printing on glossy paper. You can use either the Epson driver or QTR to have the C & M inks print the 100% black. The Eboni in the K position is for matte paper only.
