Forgive me if this is a faux pas, I've never seen it come up here-I run the digital portion of a fine art lab in Denver, and we offer great prices for drum scans- up to 8000 optical resolution.Shoot me a message off list if you want more info.

perhaps there should be a catagory for service providers in the links section, so we don't all climb all over each other when people ask, and just refer them to the links.

Owens Valley Imaging (my company) has Imacon B&W scanning services. We offer
reduced rates if the end user provides the spotting and crop-to-frame
duties.

The best scanning service is one that understands your needs. When
people ask for scanning, they need to be specific about the
requirements. Real fluid mounted drum scans remain the gold standard for
top quality (sorry Flex owners) but maybe the need is for a reasonable
cost on a quantity of scans suitable for web use or small prints which
is at the opposite end of the spectrum. How good a scan you can get for
a price at either extreme is the question. There are places that will
scan slides for less than 50 cents each and places that will scan them
for hundreds of dollars each and there is everything in between. Either
could be a bargain or a waste of money depending what you actually need
and ultimately get. When people come to my shop, we usually have to play
20 questions before we can offer the best price and matching service and
sometimes we even pass on the job.

Indeed! I could hear that nail being struck all the way from Texas. And
that is true of most photographic services on the printing side. We are not
just a "Auto" industry, although we can put something in at the beginning
and will always get something coming out, the quality comes at a cost.

Exactly True!

Lew, I don't know where you are located, but I provide a high quality scan using true oil mounted drum scans as well as lesser quality types.
