Digital BW, The Print

I've been using MIS inks on an Epson 4880.  The ABW seems as good as it is with Epson inks, and I have no complaints about the colors, either.

I now have a 3880 as well, and a set of refillable cartridges on the way. The 3880 will be used for Photo Black, and the 4880 for matte.

I will soon finish off the MIS "K4" ink I have.  Before I reorder, I wonder whether there are any other 3rd party inks I should consider.  Is MIS as good as it gets for full color + ABW?

I am using Piezography Selenium in my 3800 for B&W prints on both matte and 
glossy papers - I find the results outstanding.

I also use ConeColor inks in my 3800 (selling) and my new 7900.  Results are 
every bit as good as OEM inks, but at a much lower cost (money and the 
environment).

I used both MIS and Piezography inks in my 2200 - I preferred Piezography.

I have been using Cone inks in my 3800 and I've been generally pleased with the results after custom profiling. The only thing I found was that the photo black was not giving me the density that I had from OEM ink. Just took the edge off my B&W.

I have recently tried Inkjetfly PK (v3)to test their claim that they achieved a density close to that of the Epson PK. I must say that tests with the QTR ink separation technique confirmed that it is very close to the Epson. I get an L* of under 4 with IJF, where the Cone was around 7-8.

I am now trialling the Inkjetfly v3 colours too, and have found that they give a colour gamut very close to the Epson K3. This again is after profiling. The v3 colours were samples so I'm not sure about availability at the moment. Naturally, I can't say anything about any aspects of long-term performance - watch this space!
