USB to DVI adaptor with LaCie 324 monitor - will it affect image quality?

I am finally taking the plunge and getting a decent monitor for PS editing work. I am restrcited to an ancient Lenovo T61 (running XP) laptop with VGA output. It seems that Lenovo does not offer any graphics card upgrades to my T61, but they do offer a USB to DVI adaptor. Apparently, it has some issues with speed when gaming or watching video, but does anyone know whether it will affect actual image quality (which is what I am intersted here)? Thank you in advance.
