should I convert GG-to-QTR.tif to jpg when using QTR with jpg files?

should I convert GG-to-QTR.tif to jpg when using QTR with jpg files?

I use Photoshop Elements 6.0 which doesn't have the Profile Conversion feature that the full version of Photoshop has. Therefore I use the GG-to-QTR.tif Curve Layer file supplied by Paul Roarke as a final step before printing. But now that QTR accepts jpg files should I convert the GG-to-QTR.tif file to jpg and continue printing with the same workflow as before, as in the preceding version of QTR?

This may be an obvious "yes". But experience has told me sometimes the obvious answer is not a simple yes or no when it comes to computers and digital photography!

Thanks!

Paul

I think the answer is that you still need the curve. I assume QTR prints its straight line response with Jpegs just like Tiff files. When I convert a gray gamma 2.2 tiff to a jpeg, it stays gray gamma 2.2. I'd check the working space of the jpeg.

Thanks, Paul, I figured that would be the case. But I have a confession to make. I've printed some .tif files without that layer and I can hardly see the difference. Maybe I'm not discerning enough.

Obviously I'm still rather new at this. Here's another confession: I still don't have a real firm grasp of profiles. Can you refer me to website or other source that would help me understand that issue at a basic level still thorough? I'd really appreciate that.

Regards,

Paul

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
