QTR UT-14 option

QTR UT-14 option

2011-01-15 by augusto marcuzzi

Dear all
I'll attempt to make my first B&W print. The equipment is as follow
Epson 1410 (Latin American version of the 1400)
UT-14 Inkset
6 resettable empty carts.
QTR Version 2.7.0.0
Windows XP
The printer has been checked and work perfectly with the original color inset.
My doubts and questions are:
Regarding QTR Inkset selector, the UT14 option is not present. QUAD 1400 MIS / QUAD K6 and QUAD 1400 are the only options.
Is necessary to perform some QTR test or calibration with the original color inkset or may I retrofit the UT14 inkset to start.
I already read the QTR, UT14 manuals and instructions, but all yours suggestions or advises in order to help me, will be appreciate.
Thanks in advance
Augusto Marcuzzi

1400-MIS is where a few UT14 profiles will be. I assume it'll work with the 1410. Note that I set up Photoshop curves for Epson driver printing. These might be best used in an ICC. The QTR forum -- http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/QuadtoneRIP/messages -- has people who may share many more QTR profiles.

I don't think anything needs to be done with the original set of color carts except keeping them in case the printer needs warranty repair. Stick them back in then.

Good luck with the system.

I have posted QTR profiles for this combination on the QTR list:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/QuadtoneRIP/files/Curves/

There are curves for Kirkland Glossy, Ilford Gold Fiber Silk and Epson Enhanced matte. These are probably pretty good starting points for other papers with similar surfaces.

The hard part with QTR can be the installation, i.e. getting the files in the right locations on your computer. Questions can be posted to the QTR list.

But, it's not necessary to use QTR with the UT-14 inks, as you can use Paul's Photoshop curves.

Thanks for the kind advises and curves. I’m very happy with the results of
my first prints.
Until now, is more easy do it, than explain it.
These prints was made with PS + Epson driver and QTR using Quad 1400 MIS
with the Epson Mate curve. Mate generic paper locally obtained. Results are
very close to the original Silver Darkroom prints made by my father. The
next goal is calibration and paper profiling with the QRT software.

Augusto
