Non-genuine Epson ink - can't print

2011-05-27 by Lew Schwartz

After using Cone PK from inkjet mall for about a month successfully ... this
am all sorts of warnings went off ... an annoying sound I can't turn off,
etc ... Aside from assuring me that this sort of thing is illegal, can
anyone tell me how to start printing again?

PO'd

How about some info, what printer, what noise? BTW, it is not illegal to use third party inks or papers in printers.

Problem solved by going through a few dialogs on the printers lcd display.
It's a Stylus Pro 4880. Any idea how often this q & a will turn up?

The printer asked me a few questions via its lcd screen ... I had to
acknowledge that there is no warranty if the printer is damaged by
non-genuine inks and ... did I still want to proceed, etc..

What more can I tell you?

It will do that every time you turn it on with 3rd party cartridges. It will
also do it every time you add a 3rd party cartridge.

... so leave it on all the time (I do) and expect some s**t every time one
of the original Epson carts runs out & I replace it with 3rd party.

This is a form of psychological torture. Pavlov used intermittent
reinforcement just before his dogs became abjectly obedient. Epson seems to
have taken his book to heart.

FWIW I've been dealing with that issue for years and it's really only as
much as a big deal as you wish to make it. The savings of using third-party
carts over the pricey Epson carts makes it worthwhile. Whenever I see that
message it reminds me how much money I'm saving!

I agree. And it's not that hard to quickly move through the responses.
That said, the only thing it's going to accomplish is to make me look very
hard at other brands when it's time for me to buy a new printer.

It wasn't hard to move through, but it caught me by surprise when I didn't
have much time to put into it. I'm still concerned by the fact that the
warning didn't come up until after a month of using the ink. It would not be
difficult for Epson to program in these warnings intermittently.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone either done, or come across, fade testing on Cone Color inks? I don't see anything up on Mark's site (Aardenburg-imaging.com).

Terry.
