Ink Mixing/problem with ingredients

2011-08-29 by luxlebis

Hello,
I know this has been discussed before.
I live in germany and run an epson r285 (I think its r380
in the US). I have cards from MIS (via farbenwerk.com in germany)
with ultratone 3d. I like the prints, but would love to try the C6b
formula from Paul. I cant get the equal photo-flo (I dont know if it was 200 or 600) and Edwal LFN in Germany/europe. Has anybody in this group from germany/europe any ideas for a replacement?

Won't Freestyle Sales, B&H, or one of the other big stores ship
internationally?

I use Photo Flo 200.

See message #99002. Mike King used Photo Flo 600 at 50% of the amount I found worked. It appears to have worked fine for him. The 600 has 3 times the surfactant as the 200. However, you also need the glycol that is in Photo Flo. So, it's possible that if you cut the PF 600 more you'll run short of that. If the mix clouds, it may be due to insufficient glycol.

That is smaller and should be cheaper to ship from the US. Be sure to get the 4 oz. size. I just re-ordered from B&H Photo.

By the way, "BASF Plurafac S305 LF" may be the source of the mixture of linear alcohol alkoxylates in Edwal LFN. I have not found a way to get a reasonable amount of it here -- yet. At some point I'll try again to find a way to source this.

I might add that the C88 with C6 Eboni in a CIS will be heading for its 4th year at college soon. My daughter sometimes agitates the CIS, but seldom. I've never emptied the CIS -- just top if off each summer. It sits in a box all summer un-used. Carbon printing can be incredibly cheap.

Thank you for the hints!
Is "BASF Plurafac S305 LF" the only active
part that I need in the Edwal wetting agent?
Maybe I will try to get that here. The problem getting
something from the USA is the cost for shipping.
I can get many different good ( for the normal purpose) cheap wetting agents (for example
from adox) in germany.
I still run a darkroom an even have some. But i don´t know
if I can use this instead of foto flo or edwal lfn.

No, you'd have to add some isopropyl alcohol, but that's easy to get.

It takes a lot of testing to see what works.

Thanks for the link. I need to find a similar outfit in the US that will sell, in effect, sample sizes.
