roll paper with epson 1400

roll paper with epson 1400

2011-12-30 by Susan Koons

I bought a roll of 13' Moab 190 Entrada. The purpose was to cut down the sizes I needed without the waste of using a 13x19 to print a square print. the paper curl is causing problems with jamming. Has anyone else ventured in this? I cut some sheets and have them in a box of paper trying to flatten them. thanks Dan

I avoid roll paper unless I'm printing an image that is larger than any pre-cut sheets of the paper in question. Particularly for the 1400, which should have ample top and bottom margins to avoid banding, buying rolls is not worth the hassle.

I've found that moisture is effective at "relaxing" the curl of roll paper. My latest effort to use moisture was to hang the paper with an aluminum bar under it, and a steam humidifier below and behind the paper. Many use the d-rollers (reverse rolling the paper). I have one but would like to use a method that does not touch the surface.

Reverse rolling the total roll on another core should have the same
surfaces touching one another. After 12-24 hours you can wind it back on
the original core and print. I use it sometimes with 2" cores and older
rolls.

I have a roll of Epson Hot Press Natural which I cut pieces from for printing with my 1400. What "works" for me to get rid of any excessive curl is to press the sheet on the ironing board with a moderately warm iron. The sheet doesn't seem to "suffer" from this process, but of course it is a bit of a nuisance to have to do. But the cost saving and size options are advantageous.
