To the group - I wanted to take the "pulse" of the group: is there an interest in Concorde Rag in white (in addition to the current softwhite)? Would you be interested in a heavier weight, or the current 181gsm? Joshua Levine Legion Paper

My preference would be for something around the color of Somerset Enhanced (the old, haven't seen the new), but with better blacks and less texture than SE, but more tooth than LPM. In general I prefer a heavier paper. Could you review the changes to the legion line that have occurred recently and how the papers relate to each other in terms of color, weight, surface, and Dmax? I heard that SE got a facelift, and the original SE got a name change, and I've been uncertain of what's what ever since. Thanks, Todd Flashner

Todd -
The Concorde we are considering would be exactly what you said.
- Not as bright white as LPM
- Not as smooth as LPM
- Smoother than Somerset Photo Enhanced (SPE)
- Not as creamy as Concorde Rag
- Better blacks than SPE
- Weight tbd (suggestions?)
As for the Legion line, you can find the information in Antonis'
database, or on http://www.legionpaper.com
As for your specific question about the changes in the line:
- We introduced Legion Photo Matte, Legion Photo Gloss in
sheets and rolls
- We introduced Legion Photo Canvas Cover in 8.5x11
- We introduced Somerset Photo Enhanced in textured sheets
and rolls
- We added 13"x33' rolls of SPE Velvet
- Based on user feedback, the surface of SPE Velvet was made
slightly smoother. Boxes are labelled as "Improved Surface"
(The "old" surface is still available in 255gsm).
- We introduced Concorde Rag in 24" rolls
Each of the current desktop grades is available in our Digital Art
Paper Sampler.
If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me offline.

Joshua, If you want to poll the users, I can set one up for you in the "Polls" section on the group homepage. There is currently a poll running at the request of Robert Rex of Crane to assess the market for paper in panorama sizes. If you would like to try this check out the current poll, send me the question you would like to ask and the multiple-choice answers. A user can only vote for one as the software is constructed. Us 3000 users (there are what... 2 or 3?) have big problems with anything approaching 300gsm. Though a bit more weight would be more luxurious, the old Concorde works very well in a 3000 at it's current weight, as did Somerset Enhanced (pre update). Tyler

Joshua, if you make CR white and heavy would it be that different than other papers competing for white with a soft texture? If I had to vote, I would vote for the present color but much heavier (approaching 300 gsm). One of the problems with CR and piezoBW has been a tendency to mottle or just get "noisy" in the deeper blacks. If that could be addressed in an upgrade, it could make it more useful with some images. Thanks for soliciting our input! Antonis --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., levij@l... wrote:

Concord Rag is my favorite. Both whiter and heavier versions would be
welcome supplements to the current as long as the rich blacks and smooth
texture aren't diminished.
